What to expect
This befriending service supports people across Cambridgeshire who are Deaf, use British Sign Language (BSL), or are living with hearing loss. It is designed to reduce isolation, build confidence, and help people stay connected to their communities.
Support is flexible and tailored to the individual. This can include one-to-one befriending, such as home visits, phone or video calls, or meeting out in the community for a walk, coffee, or support with everyday activities.
Alongside this, there are opportunities to take part in small, welcoming group activities and wellbeing sessions, offering a chance to meet others in a relaxed and accessible environment.
The service supports a wide range of communication needs. Some sessions are suited to people who communicate using spoken English and have age related hearing loss, while others are inclusive of Deaf individuals and BSL users. Volunteers are trained to provide friendly, patient support and help people feel more confident and connected.
Overall, the service aims to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and create meaningful social connections for people who may otherwise feel isolated.
