Wisbech Chess Club

Back to Activities

Wisbech Chess Club is for all abilities, from beginners to match players. You can play with or without clocks. Chess coaching is also available.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • chess teaches patience, resilience, and emotional control. Players learn to accept wins and losses gracefully, reflecting on mistakes to improve future performance;
  • the game encourages confidence and self-assurance, as consistent practice and strategic thinking build a sense of accomplishment;
  • chess also promotes calmness under pressure, helping players manage stress in competitive or real-life situations.

What to expect

The friendly, relaxed environment welcomes players of all abilities from beginner upwards. The Club's groups have participants from beginners to county standard.

There are friendly games each week, and competitive matches are available for those who wish to progress to a higher level.

Regular meetings are Mondays from 2-4pm and from 7pm on Tuesdays.

Chess sets are kept on-site to allow players to meet up at other times, or arrive early or leave later, if a game is still in progress.
