What to expect:
Potential new members are welcome to attend the monthly meeting. You are more than welcome to call Jen or Patricia for a chat beforehand if you have any questions or worries.
On arrival you will be welcomed in, shown the hall and introduced to other members.
The meetings usually last 2 hours and involve business of the WI and then a guest speaker. There is usually some kind of competition and a raffle that people can take part in. Light refreshments are provided.
You can attend 3 meetings as a visitor for free. If you decide you would like to become a member, you will be asked to fill in a basic membership form and pay the membership fee.
You can then take part in other activities and events provided throughout the year. Activities they offer include:
- Craft afternoon – This group meets once a month. The time varies to accommodate members and is free to attend. Get involved and have a go at 2 or 3 different crafts.
- Whist and Games events – This group meets regularly, there may be a cost attached for this. Please ask the group for when the next session will take place.
- Past events have included theatre trips, day trips, visit local attractions, and lunch clubs.
Members are also able to take part in activities and events provided by the other WIs that are part of the Isle of Ely Federation.
More information:
The WI is a unique organisation shaped by its members. In 1915, they set out to give women a voice and to be a force for good in the community. Since then, their members and ambitions alike have grown tremendously. Today, they are the largest women’s organisation in the UK and they pride themselves on being a trusted place for all women of all generations, to share experiences and learn from each other. A WI membership offers the opportunity to meet women in your local area in-person and virtually, to make friends and make a difference in your community. They campaign nationally on a wide range of issues and provide life-long learning and self-development opportunities for women in England and Wales.
The Hall is accessible, and has accessible toilet. There is on-street parking, but please be mindful of local residents.
You can come as a visitor for three times.
There is a yearly membership fee to attend the monthly meetings. Usually this is paid in one go, however if this is an issue please speak to a member of the committee, who can make alternative arrangements.
Some activities may come at a cost. Please speak to the WI for up-to-date prices.
The WI is based in The Coates Public Hall:
