The Poppy Appeal starts at the end of October and runs through Remembrance Sunday.
They are looking for volunteers that can help. There are lots of volunteering roles you can get involved with such as:
- Helping to distribute/collect poppies and collection tins to local businesses and shops
- Help with the manned collections in supermarkets
- At the end of the Appeal, could you spare some time to count donations?
You don’t need to be a member of the Royal British Legion to join in with the Poppy Appeal, and you don’t need to have links to the Armed Forces community. You’ll be helping the UK’s leading Armed Forces charity, the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin, ensuring their contribution is never forgotten.
What to expect:
The local Poppy Appeal Organiser and Community Fundraiser will be able to show you what to do beforehand with all the different roles mentioned and provide help and support where needed.
At the supermarket collections they usually have two people helping at the table. You would need to check your car in at the welcome desk in the supermarket, but usually the car parking is free.
A volunteer collector’s badge is provided whilst helping at the manned collections. In some locations tea and coffee is provided, but please feel free to bring a drink or snack with you.
If you would like to help to deliver/collect poppies and collecting tins, access to your own transport is necessary.
